Coping with Loneliness at Christmas
Not Feeling Festive? You’re Not Alone.
Body:
For some, Christmas can be a lonely time. If you’re feeling isolated this year, here are ways to stay connected and uplifted:
- Reach Out: Call or text loved ones to share the holiday spirit.
- Join a Community Event: Many Australian towns host free Christmas BBQs or carol evenings.
- Volunteer: Helping others can bring a sense of purpose and joy.
- Practice Self-Care: Take time for activities that bring you comfort and peace.
Even a chat on the street or over the garden fence can make all the difference to someone’s wellbeing – and yours, too. Better still, organise an ‘Orphans’ Christmas’, and invite people you know in a similar situation to share the day with you.
If being alone on Christmas is unavoidable, plan a day for yourself. Buy something online to treat yourself, cook your favourite foods, or plan a movie marathon. Or do something offbeat like learning a new language or starting work on the novel that’s always been in your head.
Remember, it’s okay to feel a mix of emotions this season. You’re never truly alone.
